Kindergarten and 1st Grade English/Spanish and English/Mandarin Classes

The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD will hold
informational meetings about its new English/Spanish and
English/Mandarin dual language immersion program that begins in
September 2009. English speakers and English learners receive
instruction in English and a target language in the same classroom. The
language of instruction alternates during the school day to encourage
fluency in both languages.
PUSD’s program begins with Kindergarten and first grade at San Rafael
Elementary School. Two or three classrooms at San Rafael will be devoted
for English/Spanish immersion and one classroom for English/Mandarin.
Applications are available online [Español], [Mandarin], or in-person at
351 S. Hudson Avenue, Room 121. Applications must be submitted by
March 11, 2009. If the program is oversubscribed, students will be
selected via PUSD’s Open Enrollment random lottery process, and
families will be notified of the results the week of March 15.
