Community Performance Scheduled May 17
Students throughout the Pasadena Unified School District will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop with The Young Americans, an internationally-recognized music and performing arts group, on May 15 at Daniel Webster School. The workshop will include classes in voice, choral singing, dance, acting/improvisation., musical theater, and performance techniques. The workshop will culminate in a community performance at the Marshall Fundamental auditorium on Sunday, May 17 at 5 p.m.
“The Daniel Webster School community loves The Young Americans. The one-day workshop we had last year for middle school students was so popular that we couldn’t wait to have them back! This time, we have opened the three-day workshop up to all students in grades 1-8,” said Daniel Webster School Principal Sharon Lefler. “At our kick-off assemblies, four talented and charismatic members of The Young Americans gave our students a small sampling of what to expect, and got everyone in the audience on their feet singing and dancing, laughing and clapping. In addition, four students who attended the workshop last year shared their excitement and enthusiasm with the student body at the assemblies. Webster School, students and families, can hardly wait for May 15-17!”
The Young Americans is comprised of college age performers and teachers that use music, dance and performance to encourage individual strengths and competence while building a sense of community. The group, founded almost 50 years ago, has gained notoriety through television appearances, recordings, and concerts in some the world’s finest venues, and won an academy award for their documentary, “The Young Americans.” Through their International Music Outreach Program, The Young Americans create a two-hour live musical concert that incorporates the students. After just two days in a workshop, the students join The Young Americans onstage in a live public performance for family and friends. Workshops are typically available for 4th through 12th grade age groups of all types.
The entire workshop is being generously sponsored by Nestle USA.
