Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) high school students will compete in Pasadena’s first city-wide Model United Nations Conference at Pasadena City College (PCC) on Friday, June 12. The conference is an all-day event that focuses on the politics of water in the Middle East.
One hundred and fifty students from PUSD high schools will represent various nations as delegates to the Security Council of the United Nations as they negotiate with their colleagues to create an international water treaty. Each school has had three weeks to research their assigned nations and their positions on water distribution in the region, and to write a position paper for presentation at the conference.
The conference is organized by the United Nations Association of Pasadena, the award-winning PCC Model U.N. team and PUSD social science teachers. The program is designed to engage students in an academically rigorous simulation of international negotiations and to develop students into global citizens.
