    2008 State of the Schools

    Video of PUSD Board of Education President Tom Selinske delivering the annual State of the Schools address on Tuesday, September 16 at Eliot Middle School is now available online. The event brought parents, students, elected officials, community members and District staff together to hear about the progress and direction of public schools in Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre.





    PUSD Updates Phone Service to Improve Communications

    Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) announced that the first phase of updating and upgrading the District’s telephone systems has been completed. Telephone numbers at two schools and the District’s main office have changed.

    PUSD Announces the Opening of a Newcomer Center at Blair International Baccalaureate School

    Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Edwin Diaz today announced that a Newcomer Center has opened at Blair International Baccalaureate School. The Newcomer Center provides instruction for secondary students in Grades six through 12 who have been in the United States less than twelve months and who speak little or no English.

    PUSD Names Executive Director of Accountability, Alternative and Career and Technical Education

    Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Edwin Diaz today announced that he has named Michael Seaton as Executive Director of Accountability, Alternative and Career/Technical Education. The new position represents an expansion of the original accountability function to emphasize the need for an intense focus on school-to-career and non-traditional educational options for secondary students.

    PUSD Posts Gains In State, Federal Indicators

    Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) schools posted gains and demonstrated promising growth, according to the 2008 Accountability Progress Report (APR) released today by the California Department of Education. The APR provides results from the state accountability system, the Academic Performance Index (API), as well as the federal accountability system, which consists of the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and Program Improvement (PI).

    “Our schools continue to demonstrate steady improvement overall, and we have some examples of extraordinary gains,” said Superintendent Edwin Diaz. “Over the next year, we must draw upon those examples and practices that have produced positive results at some schools, to drive improvement at all schools.”

    PUSD Urges Families to Prepare for New School Year

    PUSD Schools Reopen September 4th

    The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) reminds families that Thursday, September 4 is the first day of school for more than 20,000 students who attend the District’s 29 schools. School officials encourage parents to ready themselves and their children now to facilitate a smooth transition back to school. Most campus offices open on August 20.

    "We encourage families to talk about the value of learning and their goals for the upcoming school year before the start of school," said Superintendent Edwin Diaz.

    PUSD employees,

    You are cordially invited to attend the "2008 PUSD All Staff Back to School Kick Off" event held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Church of the Nazarene. Breakfast and registration will be at 8:00 a.m. followed by the program event at 8:40 a.m. Limited street parking is available, therefore you are encouraged to ride the free bus from your school to the event.
