Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Edwin Diaz today announced that he has named executive directors for three key academic posts, continuing the restructuring of the District’s executive leadership team. Superintendent Diaz named Kathy Onoye Executive Director, Elementary; Joanne Abhold as Executive Director, Secondary; and Theresa Hawk as Executive Director, Special Education. The positions are new, created as part of the plan to restructure PUSD for greater instructional and organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

If you were on a wait list and were not contacted by the Office of Student Support Services telling you that there was space for you at that school, you now have the opportunity to register at your neighborhood school only.

Renowned Administrator Brings 30 Years Experience as a San Gabriel Valley Educator
Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Edwin Diaz announced the appointment of Alice Petrossian as Chief Academic Officer, filling a key leadership post critical to the execution of academic improvement strategies to raise student achievement.
"I am extremely pleased to announce Ms. Petrossian’s appointment as Chief Academic Officer," Superintendent Diaz said. "She not only met, but exceeded my very high expectations for this position, and PUSD is fortunate to have her considerable leadership, professionalism and experience working on behalf of our students."

Student-built boat will race at Lake Skinner
Students from John Muir High School (Muir) will compete in the Solar Cup on May 17, pitting their craft against boats built by more than 900 high school students throughout Southern California.
The Solar Cup is an educational program of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and its member water agencies in which teams of high school students build, equip and race solar-powered boats. The program teaches high school teams about conservation of natural resources, electrical and mechanical engineering, problem solving and much more over a seven month period.

Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) will convene the third community forum on the Reinvention of John Muir High School (Muir) on May 15. The event, which will be held at Robinson Park, will bring parents, students, community members and staff together to discuss issues related to improving parent involvement and building support systems for students facing challenges outside of the classroom.

 The Board of Education of the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) voted to elect Tom Selinske Board President for the 2008-09 school year. Elected to the Board of Education in March 2007, Selinske is a strong advocate for innovative and proven programs to increase student success, sound financial management and effective decision making, and increasing partnerships between PUSD, local businesses, governments and community organizations.
“I am excited to serve in this new role. I look forward to working with the community to provide a world-class educational experience for every student,” said Selinske. “I am aware that we have many challenges ahead, and I encourage the entire community to continue to build support for our school district.”
