    PUSD Celebrates Cesar E. Chavez Birthday

    Schools Celebrate Latino Leader’s Legacy with Service and Learning Activities

    Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) schools celebrate the birthday of late farm worker and labor leader Cesar E. Chavez this week with classroom learning and community service activities. Earlier this month, students participated in a district-wide essay and art contest that challenged them to learn about his life and legacy. Winners will be honored at a Board of Education meeting later this Spring.

    PUSD Endorses Multiple Pathways As High School Reform Strategy

    College and Career Prep Program to Begin 2011

    The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Education approved a resolution endorsing multiple pathways as a comprehensive high school reform strategy for PUSD students. The approach helps ensure that PUSD students graduate prepared for college and careers by offering multi-year high school programs organized around career themes or industry sectors. PUSD high schools will implement pathways in 8 - 10 California industry sectors by 2011.

    PUSD Statement Regarding Chief Technology Officer

    Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Edwin Diaz today announced the resignation of Chief Technology Officer Emily Vaughn Henry, effective May 7, 2009, and issued the following statement:

    "Ms. Vaughn Henry has made numerous contributions to improve PUSD’s technology infrastructure and operations over the past year. She has been a key driver of critical projects such as upgrading the telecommunications network, converting to a new student information system and improving reporting procedures.

    "I have selected a firm who will oversee technology functions effective immediately on an interim basis until a replacement is hired. Our information technology agenda is critically important to our success in raising student achievement, and PUSD will continue to move forward with technology initiatives that support student learning."





    PUSD Musical Theater Program Announces First Winter Performance

    Do You Need More Drama?? We Do!

    Pasadena Unified School District's (PUSD) Musical Theater Program announces its first performance of the year with the upcoming debut of "LIFE IS A CABARET." A unique celebration of select music and lyrics from the classic Broadway hits CHICAGO and CABARET by John Kander and Fred Ebb, "LIFE IS A CABARET" is an original production directed and conceived by Ryan Scott Oliver. Oliver is a former alum of the Program who, since 2004, directs the program alongside the original music director, Cindy Abbott. The Musical Theater Program was founded in 1995 by Gayle Bluemel, a long-time teacher and now principal of Sierra Madre School.

    Blair Debate Team - First Time Out!

    Tennis Anyone? "Mental Tennis" That Is!

    On Saturday March 14,200 the newly formed Blair Debate Team enjoyed incredible success as they entered their first debate tournament. Their competition was some of the stiffest that California has to offer, schools like, Pasadena Poly, Waverly and Campbell Hall, 10 schools in all, 9 of which were private schools.

    Valenzuela Legislation

    In accordance with the Valenzuela Legislation regarding students after Grade 12 who have not passed the CAHSEE, PUSD has provided an informational document (PDF) discussing student eligibility for assistance in preparing for the CAHSEE after grade 12.
